Surviving Summer – Tips For Dogs and Cats
In my house we are all summer people and pets. All windows are occupied with one of our 4 cats. Libbi, my mixed Rhodesian_Ridgeback enjoying the sun, in the patio lying half asleep. If i call her to come home, after just a few minutes she at the door asking to go out again.

Although summer is fun it has its dangers for humans and pets as well.
1. We must keep them hydrated. Especially cats, they usually do not drink a lot. Keep their water fresh and add some ice cubes to the water. You can give ice cube to your pooch, he’ll love it as much as he loves the ice in the winter.
2. Never leave a pet unattended in the car. If you must do so for just a very shirt time leave a window open for ventilation. Remember – the hot can reach unbelievable degrees in a very short time, and they likely to suffer hypothermia, dehydration or even death. If the dog vomiting you should take him immediately to the vet. If there’s nothing around- dip your dog (or cat) in cold water
3. Leaving pet in a hot place even outside for long time may cause dehydration. So never leave a dog outdoors unattended and NOT on a chain or without shady area he can hide in from the burning sun. If he like the outdoors more then indoors you should leave him fresh water that should be replaced and refill often. Also provide shade for those pets who prefer the outdoors.
If you have a pool, most dogs love dipping in the water, and it can cool them. Be sure he knows to swim, or give him some “lessons” while they wearing a flotation device before the first solo dip.
6. When going to the beach keep an eye on your pooch, as they can enjoy the water so much and just swim into the ocean and get lost. If Fido joining you on a boat put a dog lifejacket on him.
5. Fleas and ticks love the warm weather and summer is also the prime time for heartworms. Wash your pet regularly with moisturizing shampoo. The better way is to use shampoo that have oils to naturally repel bugs and fleas.
6. Trimming the hair regularly and especially during summer is essential. Cats with long thick hair would benefit a good grooming too.
Enjoy the summer but be careful with your pets and humans in the family.
